1 Samuel 3:1

1 Samuel 3:1, Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. A preacher in the hospital visited by his assistant pastor story. Leaders are seen as a stumbling block for the people.

God was speaking but there was no one was listening. There was an iron block for the voices cannot be heard like. He reminds us that Samuel, who was brought by his mother as a boy to Shiloh to serve God, Samuel is still here ministering with Eli, the chief priest.

The last verse on the book of Judges explains the situation very well.

Judges 21:25, In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

We can look at the contrast of what was happening between Eli, the high priest and his children and Samuel.

1 Samuel 2:11-12, Then Elkanah went to his house at Ramah.

But the child ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest. 12 Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord.

1 Samuel 2:17-18, Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for men abhorred the offering of the Lord. 18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod.

1 Samuel 2:25-26, If one man sins against another, God[j] will judge him. But if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?” Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the Lord desired to kill them. 26 And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favour both with the Lord and men.

They were so corrupt and evil, and his father could not do anything. They were cursing God.

1 Samuel 2:22-24, Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 23 So he said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people. 24 No, my

sons! For it is not a good report that I hear. You make the Lord’s people transgress. The leaders are not seeking God’s voice! God is willing to reveal Himself.

1 Samuel 3:2-3, And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see, 3 and before the lamp of

God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down, Look at the location of both are lying!

• Eli at his house.
• Samuel in the House of God.

Eyesight begins to grow dim Could not see Lamp of God went out. Spiritual darkness. Samuel hears the call of God.

1 Samuel 3:4-10, that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!” 5 So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am,

for you called me.” And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down. 6 Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” 7 (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.) 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

4 Times God calls Samuel. In Verse 4,6,8, and 10. “Here I am” This is the first words recorded speech of Samuel in the Bible. Samuel was instantly answers. Samuel runs! Eli’s sons did not know the Lord but Samuel yet to know the Lord.

1 Samuel 2:11, Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord.

1 Samuel 2:7, (Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.) Sons of Eli was irresponsible. Heed the voice of the Lord. Challenger shuttle January 28, 1986, burst into flames in 73 seconds killing all 7 of them. The space shuttle costed 196 billion USD. Upon investigation they found that the disaster was caused by the failure of the two redundant O-ring seals in a joint in the Space Shuttle's right solid rocket booster.

The O ring will work only at 50degree F whereas the temperature was only 38degrees F. The ignored the warning from the manufacturer. Overruled and voted to launch! When God calls to him yet a fourth time, Samuel is ready to respond like a prophet and not a child.

We will see only listening from God by Samuel not talking back. God shares the judgement He is going to bring upon the house of Eli and Samuel tell Eli the same when he asks him in 1 Samuel 3:11-18.

1 Samuel 3:19-21, So Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel had been established as a prophet of the Lord. 21 Then the Lord appeared again in Shiloh. For the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.

When the leadership was busy doing something else when a young person willing to listen to God then God reveal Himself to him. If you study the 1 and 2 Samuel book this is the only place God appears! One young person willing to say “Here I am your servant willing to listen”

The Hebrew word for word is ‘dabar’ This word appears in V 1, V 7, V 9, V 11, V 12, V 17, 5 times, and now V 19.

Whose word Samuel grew. God.

1 Samuel 4:1, And the word of Samuel came to all Israel.

Now the word of Samuel becomes the Word of God. Jesus, the word of God.

John 1:1, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1;14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 6:63, It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

The SS Californian

April 5th, 1912, Left Liverpool heading towards Boston, USA. April 14th around 10.15 pm they stopped the ship since they encountered 3 large icebergs. Around 12.30 am around 10 miles distance Ernest Gill, fireman saw rockets fired. Again after 7 minutes he saw. But he

thought it was not his responsibility to notify the crew or the bridge. The crew thought the ship has been parked and they are having party. The wireless was turned off by the new by 10.30 and went to sleep on his desk. It was just 6 miles away from the disaster.

All the signals sent by Titanic went vain because there was no one to receive the signal to rescue. No one is listening! At 02.20 Titanic sank. The Carpathia, more than 50 miles to the south-east, picked up the messages and raced to the rescue through the ice field.

All non-essential power on the ship was shut down as Captain. Rostron pushed his ship to the limits, ordering his crew to prepare hot food, blankets, and medical care for the survivors. They picked 700 passengers. Are you willing to listen to voice of God?
